Year 6 visit to a Buddhist Temple
Adding to an already exciting and action-packed half term, Year 6 enjoyed a memorable visit to the Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon on Monday 2nd February. The journey took them across London to the south-west and, after clocking up an impressive number of steps and tackling the rolling hills of the Wimbledon suburbs, the children finally arrived — and it was certainly worth the effort.
The temple building itself was a remarkable sight. Pristine and grand, it was adorned with beautiful golden features that made it truly breathtaking. The sense of awe continued inside, where the scale, detail and atmosphere of the interior left a lasting impression on everyone.
During the visit, the children explored the ornate architecture and intricate wall murals, which told the story of the birth of the Buddha. They listened attentively to the tour guide, who shared fascinating insights into the origins of the temple, its design, and how it continues to be used today. Afterwards, the group visited another impressive room in the basement, where there was time to relax, enjoy lunch and reflect on everything they had learned.
The afternoon was spent wandering through the extensive and tranquil gardens, observing a wide range of statues and taking in the peaceful surroundings. The entire experience was both enlightening and informative, and the children returned feeling inspired, excited and full of enthusiasm.
