Year 6 Junior Citizenship programme
An Exciting Day of Learning at the Junior Citizenship programme!
On Tuesday 7th January, our students had the wonderful opportunity of participating in external workshops as part of the Junior Citizenship programme, where they engaged in a variety of practical and informative sessions designed to enhance their awareness of safety and public service operations.
The day was filled with mini-workshops hosted by key organisations, each focusing on essential aspects of safety and public responsibility:
London Ambulance Service (LAS): Students learned vital first aid skills, including how to respond to emergencies and the basics of providing care until professional help arrives. This session was crucial in giving students the confidence to act in critical situations.
Transport for London (TFL): In this workshop, students were educated on bus etiquette, ensuring safe and respectful travel on public transport. They also received important tips on train platform safety, emphasising awareness and caution in busy transport hubs.
Thames Water: This session highlighted the importance of proper waste disposal, educating students on what should and shouldn't be flushed down toilets to prevent blockages and environmental damage. It was an eye-opening workshop on maintaining our water systems.
London Fire Brigade: Students were introduced to general fire safety practices, including the significance of having working smoke alarms at home and understanding evacuation procedures in case of fire. This session instilled a sense of responsibility and preparedness.
Throughout the day, students had the chance to meet and interact with professionals, including a police officer, a paramedic, and a train driver, who shared their experiences and provided insights into their roles in keeping the community safe.
At the end of the workshop, some students were awarded a medal for successfully completing the tasks and earning the most points - Congratulations team Jupiter and Twix! This hands-on experience not only broadened their knowledge but also fostered a sense of achievement and pride.
The workshop was an enriching experience that combined practical learning with real-world applications, leaving a lasting impact on our students.
