Year 5 and 6 ‘Growing Against Violence’ Workshops
Pupils in Years 5 and 6 recently took part in valuable and informative ‘Growing Against Violence’ workshops. These sessions have been an integral part of our PSHE curriculum for a few years and feedback from both children and teachers continues to be positive and insightful.
Year 5 – ‘So Social Media’
Year 5 participated in a workshop titled ‘So Social Media’. This session encouraged children to reflect on their phone use and social media habits, helping them understand the difference between true friendships and online connections, as well as how to stay safe online. Key topics included cyberbullying, inappropriate content, gaming, and grooming. Pupils also learned where to seek help if they ever feel unsure or unsafe, empowering them to navigate the digital world with greater awareness and confidence.
Year 6 – ‘Friend vs. Friendly’
Year 6 took part in a workshop called ‘Friend vs. Friendly’, which explored the meaning of genuine friendship and how it differs from someone being friendly for their own gain. The session also introduced the concept of gangs, what they claim to offer, and how they operate. Through role-play activities, children learned how gangs might attempt to recruit members, helping them recognise manipulative tactics and make safe, informed decisions.
