Year 4 Natural History Museum
On Tuesday 25th November, Year 4 set off for an exciting day at the Natural History Museum to build on their learning about volcanoes and earthquakes. The trip was packed with hands-on experiences, lively workshops, and memorable moments that helped bring their geography topic to life.
During the Emergency! Volcano workshop, the children watched how magma cools and turns into rock and even had the chance to observe obsidian rock up close. They were fascinated by the model volcano eruption and particularly enjoyed using a seismometer to measure the strength of the blast.
In the earthquake gallery, the class stepped into an earthquake simulator that recreated the Kobe earthquake in Japan. The shaking floor and dramatic effects gave everyone a much clearer understanding of what seismic activity feels like and reinforced what they’ve been learning back in the classroom.
A highlight of the day was the famous escalator ride through the center of the Earth. The children were amazed by the gigantic Earth model they entered and loved the feeling of travelling deep underground.
We also managed to explore several other galleries throughout the day, with the clear favourite being the Dinosaur gallery. The highlight there was spotting a T-Rex dressed in a festive Christmas outfit, which caused a lot of excitement and plenty of laughter.
Overall, it was a memorable and enriching day that brought their geography learning to life in the most engaging way.
