Year 4 Explorers Day
This week, Year 4 traversed dense rainforests, barren deserts and freezing tundras during their Explorers Day. Dressed and ready for adventure in their explorer costumes, the children were decked out with homemade binoculars, khaki, and even flat caps and tweed, inspired by our intrepid Arctic explorer hero, Ernest Shackleton.
The day was packed with activity, beginning with the creation of cardboard binoculars to help the children search the playground for hidden ‘discoveries’, from things that make you stop and stare, to tiny hiding places perfect for a fairy or a bug. Later, old shoe boxes were transformed into three-dimensional biomes, with tissue paper and card shaped and stuck with heaps of PVA to create vibrant rainforests, Arctic tundras and African savannahs. Craft activities continued as Year 4 got their hands dirty, craving, scoring and slipping clay to create their own detailed Inunnguaq figures from clay, inspired by the Inuit people of Arctic Canada.
Year 4 also cooked up a storm in the kitchen, blending, mixing and moulding a sweet combination of dates, sunflower seeds, coconut flakes, cocoa powder and golden syrup to create delicious energy balls to sell after school. They sold in a flash, and together with money raised from class collections, the children raised over £140.
We would like to thank all parents for your support. Without you, this fundraising effort would not have been possible. The money raised will be used to provide new resources to further support your children’s learning.
Pictures coming soon...
