Year 3: Oxfam Representative Visit
Our current topic is 'That's not Fair!. Through this topic we have been exploring how everyday life can differ for some children in other countries. On Tuesday 3rd May 2016, a representative from Oxfam visited our school and carried out workshops with our classes. During the workshop, we were surprised by the shocking statistics such as 315,000 children (under 5 years old) die every year because of water contamination and 650 million people do not have access to clean, fresh water. During the workshop we also learnt about carbon footprints and discovered that foods have a carbon footprint. Did you know? A cheese burger has a large carbon footprint! Learning about Oxfam and all the ways that they help people was very inspiring and it links to our rights respecting school articles especially article 24 - all children have the right to the best health care possible, safe water to drink, nutritious food and a clean, safe environment. The visit really made us think about how fortunate some of us in the United Kingdom are.
