St.Stephen's School

Year 1 Science Week

Year 1 has just completed an exciting Science Week all about animals. We learnt some scientific language linked to what different animals ate. Children were able to identify different types of animals by exploring the ’fake poo’ from carnivores, herbivores and omnivores!

Children learnt to categorise animals based on their physical features, for example; mammals, fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects! Year 1 wrote fact files about a very interesting reptile called a bearded dragon. They used all their new found scientific knowledge to write about what the dragons ate, their habitat and how they communicate.

Science week came to an exciting conclusion when they were visited by a very inquisitive bearded dragon called Tango. Year 1 watched as Tango explored the classroom and ate crickets and insects!!! He was a very friendly visitor and allowed the children to gently stroke him!
