Y1 Visit to Stepney City Farm

During our visit to Stepney City Farm,  Year 1 explored the farm and carefully observed a range of animals including goats, sheep, rabbits and ducks. We talked about where the animals lived and what they produced, for example milk from a cow.  With adult support, the children then helped to feed the goats and sheep, learning how to offer the food gently and safely using calm hands. They were excited to see the animals come close and noticed how the goats eagerly nibbled their food while the sheep waited more quietly. The children also enjoyed watching the rabbits hop and noticing how the ducks waddled and paddled in the water. Throughout the visit, the children asked thoughtful questions and developed their understanding of how to care for animals, what they need to stay healthy and why farms are important places in our community.
