St Stephen’s Sports Days

On the weeks beginning the 7th and 14th July, St Stephen’s held its annual sports days, which consisted of many planned athletic events. The information below provides a brief description of each sports day, the events and gold medallists.


UKS2 Sports Day – Tuesday 8th July 2014

Sports week started off with the UKS2 sports day at Newham Leisure Centre. Year 5 and 6 children competed in a range of athletic events such as high jump, track and javelin. The children had a fantastic opportunity of trialling real shot puts and javelins on the day and thoroughly enjoyed this experience. After the circuit of events, finalists were selected. These can be seen in the table below. The day finished with some impressive teamwork where class teachers and their class competed against each other is a series of relay races.

Reception and KS1 Sports Day – Wednesday 9th July 2014

The week continued with the reception/KS1 sports day in West Ham Park. Mum’s, dad’s and carers turned up to support their children compete. Children had great fun in challenging themselves and competing against each other in events such as speed bounce, sack race and javelin. The afternoon followed with the running finals where children showed outstanding sportsmanship by cheering their classmates on and supporting their friends. Mums and dads then showed tremendous spirit in the parent races which the children thoroughly enjoyed. The day came to a close with the finale of the staff 100m sprint. The day was a real success and thank you to all parents and carers who took the time to come a support us.

EYFS Sports Day – Monday 14th July 2014

The following week Foundation Stage had their sports day here at St Stephen’s Primary School. Mum’s, dad’s and carers turned up to support their children compete. Children had great fun in challenging themselves and competing against each other in events such as hoop racing, obstacle courses and target practice. Children collaborated well together and showed great sportsmanship. The event came to a close with the finale of the staff race followed by parents. The day was a real success and thank you to all parents and carers who took the time to come a support us on this wonderful day.

LKS2 Sports Day – Wednesday 16th July 2014

Back to West Ham Park, the last of the sports days commenced in the scorching sunshine on Wednesday 16th July. Years 3 and 4 were split into 8 teams and participated in 8 different athletic events from shot put to the 400m long distance run. Children persevered and even through this very hot weather the children gave their all to try and get into the finals. After lunch the 100m and 400m finals were held followed by class relays and staff races. Outstanding sportsmanship was shown by all and the day ran extremely smoothly. Thank you to all the parents who came to support the children and participated in the parent races.
