Reception Parent Workshop
One of the many exciting events taking place on World Book Day was the Reception parent workshop. During the workshop, we discussed all things phonics and reading with the parents. Some of the highlights included: sharing strategies for supporting phonics development; discussing the importance of nursery rhymes and rhythm during early stages of reading; the different stages of reading and explicit guidance on emergent writing progress. All strategies linked to the importance of repetition on memory and how simple support techniques embedded throughout the day at school and at home, such as singing the nursery rhyme of the week during immersive play and sharing picture books during story time, would support the development of communication and language skills, inlcuding reading and writing. We hope all parents found this workshop helpful and we want to thank them for the fantastic turn out.
