Reception Meet the Teacher & Blue Penguin Curriculum Workshop

On Thursday 25th, our Reception team welcomed families into the school hall for an uplifting and lively Meet the Teacher and Blue Penguin Curriculum Workshop. Although the first part was all about the teachers introducing themselves and delivering key messages, it was ultimately the children who stole the show as they confidently retold the story of Blue Penguin, with help of a trusty story map and a few animated actions. As if that wasn’t enough fun, they followed it up with a jaunty performance of our special penguin song—complete with waddles, flaps, and some very impressive penguin squawks!

It was a wonderful opportunity for parents to see how learning through play, storytelling, and movement helps build early confidence and communication and to share some of the resources and strategies we use in the Reception unit to support our early learners. The teachers also shared a few helpful messages about the year ahead—especially our focus on encouraging speaking skills and independence (even if it means letting them wrestle with their own coat zips for a little longer!). And obviously no start of the year workshop would be complete without a friendly reminder: please label everything!

Thank you to everyone who came. We loved having you in the hall for our little showcase and can’t wait for you to see what we’ve got in store for the Christmas performance!
