Owl day
On Thursday 5th June 2014 six owls were brought to St. Stephen’s school by two ladies, Lisa and Erika, from Night Owls.
A few children were given the opportunity to fly the owls across the hall; they looked amazing. Later, we were fortunate enough to take pictures with Whisper, a stunning barn owl and we look forward to receiving the photos to show them off to family and friends.
The most interesting fact that we discovered was that owls have very weak eyesight therefore they are not able to hear their prey so they use their extremely good hearing to track them down. An owl can hear a mouse’s heart beat up to three metres away .They are the only animals to have one ear higher than the other, which combats the problem of weak eyesight.
