Emily Brown Workshop
Reading and Bedtime Routines.
Our Reception unit has been buzzing with excitement during Emily Brown Themed Week, as the children dived into the wonderful world of Emily Brown and the Thing. A highlight of the week was our special Pyjama Day, where children arrived in their cosiest nightwear, ready for a day of imagination and fun. Through storytelling, role-play and a range of engaging activities, the children brought the story to life and deepened their enjoyment of books and characters they love.
We were also delighted to welcome parents to our Emily Brown–themed Parent Workshop, which focused on the vital role of Phonics and Early Reading in children’s development. Alongside this, we had valuable discussions about bedtime routines and the importance of sleep for children’s learning, behaviour and overall development. Parents explored what makes a positive bedtime routine, including calm, screen-free activities, and discussed what should be avoided before bed, such as iPads, phones and other screens. We also shared ideas on how to create a consistent, child-friendly bedtime routine together at home.
After the workshop, parents were invited into the Reception unit to get stuck into a range of engaging provision activities, where we had really brought the story Room on the Broom to life. It was wonderful to see parents and children learning, playing and exploring together, sharing the joy of storytelling in a hands-on and meaningful way.
Thank you to all who attended — we hope you found the session informative, supportive and inspiring.
