St.Stephen's School

Disability Awareness day

Our Disability Awareness Day focussed on exploring communication and how impairment in one of our senses can make it difficult to share ideas and thoughts with others.

We had a special visitor, Bridget Bree [who is a BSL Interpreter and teacher] come in to school.  During the day she visited every year group and taught them the basic BSL alphabet and also Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.  Reception and Key Stage 1 parents should look out for this as the children will be performing this in the end of term assembly.

The children in Key Stage 2 were challenged to make a BRAILLE sign and explored how blind people can read using a series of dots and spaces.

In an assembly children shared their experiences of the day and the things that they learned.
