Arvon House
Monday Night at Arvon Writing Residential
We arrived safely without any travel sickness- it was a smooth, traffic free journey. Paul, the driver, is a careful, thoughtful driver.
We met our tutors, Jamila Gavin and John Hegley, who are just amazing.
The children ate well- we made sure of it.
The first day ended with drama activities by our tutors, followed by games before they were tucked into their beds.
“A small group of Year 6 pupils traveled to Shropshire and stayed in a country manor called The Hurst to develop their writing of stories and poetry. Our guest tutors were the novelist Jamila Gavin and the poet John Hegley with a special guest poet from Cliff Yates. The children worked incredibly hard and wrote a range of poems which they performed and wrote short passages and stories.
We also enjoyed many country walks including visiting Clun Castle, which inspired further their imagination and writing. Although the week's focus was writing, the children had many opportunities to draw, sing and perform. The year 6 pupils were also in charge of cooking the evening meals and looking after their 'home' for the week.
We are incredibly proud of the children's achievements and they will continue to work towards creating an anthology throughout the year.”
