A busy season for St Stephen’s Primary School choir
Over the Christmas period, the choir have been very busy performing at various locations across Newham. They began with a double header, performing at the turning on of the Green Street Christmas lights and at the Olympic Orbit. Some children even got a free ride down the UK’s biggest slide. Following this they performed at Sainsbury’s in East Ham to raise money for St Joseph’s Hospice. The choir then performed at their biggest event yet, the Newham pensioners’ lunch, held at the Excel centre. Hundreds of pensioners turned up for a jolly Christmas lunch and were delighted to be entertained by the songs from St Stephen’s Primary School. The choir were even joined by some members of the audience from a different choir and performed some unexpected duets with them. The next Saturday saw the choir on stage again at Green Street market. Once again, they didn’t fail to impress the crowd that gathered to listen. Two choir members, Hifza and Mahek, also performed some Christmas poetry. Finally the choir were invited to sing in Tesco’s Green Street to raise money for Water Aid. As well as performing on their own, they were joined by the excited members of the Tesco staff team who thoroughly enjoyed singing some carols alongside them- although they were slightly confused by the variety of harmonies! In addition to their numerous visits to the local community and further afield, choir have been performing at the school in assemblies and during the school Christmas lunch. It’s been a busy season but they’ve thoroughly enjoyed it and have been delighted to perform to such a wide variety of people.
