St.Stephen's School

Class RJR

Welcome to RJR – where the fun (and learning!) begins!

We might be the littlest learners in school but you better believe that we are ready for all the adventures Reception has in store. This year, RJR are extra lucky – we have not one, but two amazing teachers: Jude Ryan and Jess Thompson! That’s double the smiles, double the stories, and double the fun. We are also supported by lots of wonderful grown-ups, especially our brilliant Senior Support Staff, Gentiana Aga.

In RJR, we will be learning through play, making new friends (the kind that might just last forever!), and discovering the magic of school life at St Stephen’s. Our classroom and the reception garden are full of laughter, learning, and lots of exploring. Learning can be a messy business and everyday is an adventure as we get our hands dirty - quite literally, playing in the mud kitchen!

One of our big goals this year is becoming Phonics Superstars! We will be sounding out words, diving into exciting stories, and growing our imaginations. You can help us by reading with us every day at home – and don’t forget to ask us questions about the story (we love sharing our ideas!).

We are also busy learning to write our names, get ourselves dressed (buttons can be very tricky!), and do things all by ourselves. Independence, here we come!

In Maths, we are getting to know numbers up to 20 and discovering number bonds to 10. We will be adding, subtracting, counting, and problem-solving with the help of fun activities – and sometimes a few teddy bears or dinosaurs thrown in for good measure.

We are also on a mission to learn more about the world around us – from the changing seasons to different countries, local parks, and even forest adventures. Whether we are singing nursery rhymes, sharing stories, or building castles out of blocks, one thing’s for sure: it is going to be a fantastic year of learning, growing, and giggling together!
