St.Stephen's School

Class 1SS

A very warm welcome to 1SS!

We are a kind, enthusiastic and diligent class. Our class teacher is Shyma Sasirajan and we are very lucky to also have the support of lots of different adults, including Jahanara Ahmed who is our senior support staff. If you want to visit us, we can be found in Room 5.

This is an exciting year as we are working really hard with our Phonics so that we can read some amazing stories!  Please read with us everyday at home so that our imagination and vocabulary can grow! We will be writing in a wide range of genres which includes stories, poems, instructions and fact files. This will also give us lots of opportunities to practise forming letters beautifully and punctuate our sentences correctly.

In Maths we will be learning about numbers to 100 and beyond which will help us become more confident with adding and taking away. One of our challenges is to know our number bonds to 10 so we will practise them until we are number bond champions!

We will also be exploring the world around us and learning lots of interesting facts in History, Geography and Science lessons, as well as becoming experts in using computers, music and keeping fit and healthy in PE. We will also practise and explore our creative skills in Art.

Really excitingly, this year we will be learning all about the Hindu festival of Diwali, which will give us the opportunity to show off our singing, dancing and acting skills for our Parent’s Assembly.
